Don’t wait for your teenager to change, change the way you see them.
We have all been teenagers and perhaps we had a different kind of relationship with our own parents compared to the ones we have with our teenagers. Times have changed, so do society norms and lifestyles. With the rise of broken families, different socio-economic situations and social media influence – Parenting has got harder.
Some parents just hit a wall when it comes to being able to relate and connect to their children and especially teenagers.Taking kids for ice cream and shopping is not going to cut it any more, so is the traditional punishing and grounding by taking away their freedom. Teenagers want to feel like ‘adults’. They want to be respected for their own decisions and boundaries they have created. They want to be seen as full beings.
Relationships and connections cannot be built anymore through authoritarian words or judgements. Teenagers will not listen to you anymore unless they feel understood by you.
